Legal Guardianship
Legal guardianship can be exercised by family members of the person under guardianship, other voluntary guardians, guardianship organizations or lawyers. The guardianship court has the authority to decide on the choice of guardian. However, the person concerned or his/her relatives can also suggest a volunteer from their community who is willing or able to take over the guardianship.
Özlem Ergün-Çakır, who is routinely appointed as a legal guardian by the guardianship courts in Germany, together with our team provides a wide range of legal support to persons who are temporarily or permanently placed under guardianship due to physical or mental disability.
Legal guardianship includes, in particular, legal representation before public authorities, courts, care and health insurances and, where necessary, the organization of various other matters that the person under guardianship cannot handle on their own. The scope of the matters to be organized is determined by the guardianship court in cooperation with the guardianship authority or the guardianship association.
